Batting to reach a target of 185, Zakir Hasan achieved a score of 40 runs, while Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque each scored 30 runs steadily. The experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan then finished the game, leading to celebrations in the Bangladesh team’s dressing room. Bangladesh displayed a calm demeanor as they executed their third-largest successful chase in Test cricket.
A Test victory abroad, especially a series win, is a seldom seen occurrence in Bangladeshi cricket. This victory marked only their fourth win out of 20 overseas Tests in the past seven years and their third Test series win abroad.
This loss further contributed to Pakistan’s suffering, as it also prolonged their streak of not winning at home to ten Tests. After defeating South Africa in February 2021, they have experienced four draws and six losses, including series losses to Australia, England, and Bangladesh.
As they entered the second session, Bangladesh needed 63 runs with eight wickets still remaining. Shanto attempted some reverse sweeps and managed to score a boundary through backward point, but he was unable to sustain his innings for a prolonged period. He gently bunted the ball straight to Abdullah Shafique at short leg for an easy dismissal, delivered by Salman Agha.
